For best results, store taquitos in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to cook, then fry until golden brown and serve immediately with our signature avocado sauce.

Frying Tips from Olvera Street

For the best results, fry your taquitos the same way we’ve done it for generations:

  1. Choose your oil: We use lard, but vegetable or avocado oil work well.

  2. Fill your pan: Add enough oil to cover about half the taquito.

  3. Heat it up: Bring the oil to medium-high heat — hot enough to sizzle, but not smoke.

  4. Place tortilla fold down: Place taquitos with the tortilla edge down to prevent unraveling.

  5. Fry evenly: Cook for about 5 minutes until golden brown on the first side, then flip for 1–2 minutes to crisp the other side without over-browning.

  6. Drain & season: Remove from the pan and place on a paper towel–lined plate. Let the oil drip off and salt to your taste.

  7. Serve immediately: Warm up your avocado sauce, pour into a cup, and dip your taquitos while they’re still hot.

  8. Best enjoyed right away — fresh, crispy, and drenched in sauce, just like at the stand.
